2008 Chardonnay Reserve

Awards

  • Silver - 2012 All Canadian Wine Championship
  • Bronze - 2010 Canadian Wine Awards

The 2008 growing season began three weeks later than normal and cooler than average temperatures resulted in delayed budding and flowering of the vines. With autumn arriving earlier than expected, grapes were left hanging longer than usual in order to allow for fruit ripening. The vines are 18 years old (two different clones) and the vineyard is on the Golden Mile Bench. Harvested on September 28, 2008.

Winemaker's Notes

2008 CHARDONNAY RESERVE is rich in aroma of apple, peach and tropical notes wrapped in subtle layers of vanilla, spice and tobacco. The wine leaves long lingering flavors with perfect balance of oak, green apples and vanilla.

Wine Making

Grapes are whole cluster pressed to gently release the virgin and high quality juice. The juice is then fermented in stainless steel tank to continue the delicate preservation of fruit. The wine is then aged in new French and American barrels for 8 months. Six different types of barrels were used for this Chardonnay. Blended on August 15, 2009 and bottled two weeks later. The wine is enjoyable now and will continue to improve with careful cellaring for 3 to 5 years.
